With the TopClass, you benefit from a surprisingly low total cost of ownership (TCO). For example, several technical features and customised service offerings ensure low maintenance costs - and therefore result in a high overall cost-effectiveness. You'll also capitalise on the high value retention of a Setra. Your Setra contact will gladly show you how the TopClass will pay off for you.

Cost-effectiveness
The bottom line - exceptional cost-effectiveness.
The bottom line - exceptional cost-effectiveness.
The cost-effective double-decker coach.
The S 531 DT clearly shows that luxury and efficiency are not mutually exclusive. Thanks to the lower investment per seat, the double-decker at full occupancy is usually more cost-effective than two coaches.
Modern engines from Mercedes-Benz.
The Mercedes-Benz BlueEFFICIENCY Power engine used in the TopClass S 531 DT with its environmentally friendly BlueTEC 6 exhaust gas aftertreatement isn't just powerful, quiet and future-oriented, it's also extremely frugal.
PPC (Predictive Powertrain Control).
The PPC (option) is a GPS cruise control, which also engages in the automatic control of the PowerShift 3 transmission.* Because the system knows the topography ahead, it enables the automatic gear switching before declines, on mountainous terrain, before hilltops and in valleys - for a predictive selection of gear and speed. The PPC therefore contributes to the optimisation of fuel consumption and makes the TopClass even more cost-effective.
Economical maintenance costs.
The maintenance costs of the DT model are pleasingly low. You'll benefit from the remarkably long service intervals, the easy accessibility of the components for maintenance, as well as a sophisticated switching system for exhaust aftertreatment.

Your S 531 DT’s overall cost-effectiveness.
A sustainable investment, economical consumption, low maintenance costs: The TopClass S 531 DT not only inspires with its design, comfort and versatility. Its cost-performance over the entire lifecycle is also impressive – the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).
Capital costs.
With the S 531 DT, you are investing in a coach with an exceptionally high residual value. To ensure the greatest possible cost-effectiveness, we also tailor the equipment, financing, service and service contracts exactly to your intended applications. On request, BusStore will guarantee the residual value of your coach and buy it back later – giving you the greatest possible planning security.
Energy costs.
The S 531 DT’s highly efficient engine ensures low energy costs at maximum performance. The Mercedes-Benz GO-250 PowerShift 3 transmission, which is ideally optimised to the engine, further enhances fuel consumption. OMNIplus DriverTraining also contributes to low fuel consumption. Aerodynamics, however, have the greatest impact on energy consumption: the coach’s aero-front and aero-rear enable an air resistance coefficient of cw = 0.35. Depending on the application, this leads to considerable savings in fuel costs. And the higher the annual mileage, the greater your savings
Maintenance and repair costs.
Long service intervals of up to 120,000 kilometres reduce costs and downtime. Thanks to the comprehensive OMNIplus Service Network with bus- and coach-specific Service Points, you remain mobile at all times. This also has a positive effect on the overall cost-effectiveness of your double-decker coach.
Even the assistance systems pay off, since more active safety means a reduced risk of accidents. This not only reduces the risk of personal injury, but can also save repair costs and downtime. After all, the S 531 DT only earns money when travelling with passengers – and not in the workshop.
We are continuously optimising all these cost factors. This results in the S 531 DT not only impressing your passengers, but also contributing more to your bottom line. Your Setra representative will be pleased to provide you with a customised estimate.
Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).
Looking at the big picture:
There is a lot more that goes into what your TopClass costs than its purchase price. At Setra, we always make it a point to look at the big picture when we develop a coach or bus. We optimise all TCO factors in view of achieving the best possible cost-effectiveness for you. These factors include investment costs, energy costs, maintenance and repair costs, as well as the residual value when your vehicle is sold.
The good news is that yes, we can influence them and we do – to the greatest possible extent. For example, by continuing to develop and evolve our drive components, by reducing the need for maintenance, by offering customised services – and of course, through the well-known outstanding quality and durability of our coaches and buses.
