“As an operator, the issue of climate protection is extremely important to us”, says Philipp Hörmann, Managing Director of Augsburg‑based coach tour operator Hörmann Reisen, whose climate impact is remarkably low.

Touring coaches are top performers when it comes to climate protection.
Philipp Hörmann is keen to highlight that according to Federal Environmental Office figures, touring coaches produce fewer carbon dioxide emissions per passenger kilometre than trains, flights or cars. Hörmann Reisen always highlight their touring coaches' low carbon footprint when promoting their travel offerings. But they've also gone one step further: “The step from environmentally friendly modes of transport to climate‑neutral travel is not a very big one for buses/touring coaches”, explains Philipp Hörmann. Hörmann Reisen was recognised as a climate‑positive company in as early as 2019 and in 2021, it was named the winner of the “International Busplaner Sustainability Award”.
“With this touring coach, comfort and climate protection go hand in hand, and the feel‑good factor that comes with both these things is hugely important in coach travel.”
Climate protection is becoming more and more important for passengers.
In order to make travelling by touring coach completely climate‑neutral – even a modern touring coach can't be completely emission‑free – Hörmann Reisen makes a voluntary and cost‑neutral climate protection contribution on behalf of its passengers for all touring coach routes. Philipp Hörmann explains that these payments go towards forest protection and sustainable measures for the production of renewable energies. For example, through the company Fokus Zukunft, reforestation in South America is supported.
The feel‑good factor on a touring coach trip.
Since 2009, Hörmann Reisen's fleet has consisted exclusively of Setra touring coaches. The company uses ComfortClass vehicles and Setra S 531 DT double‑decker touring coaches. The 15 modern touring coaches all come with five‑star furnishings in accordance with the standards of Gütegemeinschaft Buskomfort (gbk) and three touring coaches are classed in the highest Five‑star Superior category, with features such as 2+1 seating.
“The 'feel‑good factor' is particularly important when travelling by touring coach”, says Philipp Hörmann – and it only increases when you know you're travelling in a climate‑friendly Setra.
Touring coaches offer comfort and climate protection.
Maximum comfort and climate protection go hand in hand. Passengers enjoy on‑board service on all of Hörmann Reisen’s coach trips, and can order from a wide selection of food and drinks, which are prepared in an on‑board kitchen in the rear before being delivered straight to their seats. For Hörmann Reisen, the rear entrance offered by Setra in the ComfortClass was a key reason why they chose this brand. Philipp Hörmann details all the brand's plus points: “The passenger section isn't broken up by a centre entrance, the vehicle has a large boot that can be loaded very easily from the pavement and there's easy access to the on‑board toilet in the rear." It's these features that make these touring coaches excel so much when it comes to comfort.
