Senior meets Junior.

Setra coaches of yesterday and today – compared.

When an old-timer Setra S8 meets the ultra-modern ComfortClass Setra S 511 HD, it’s a special kind of family reunion. Both the distant ancestor and its fresh-faced descendant were – or are – far ahead of their times.

In 1951, the idea that European countries could work together found its first expression in the creation of the European Coal and Steel Community. Argentinian Juan Manuel Fangio won the first of his five Formula 1 trophies. In Minnesota, USA, open-heart surgery using a heart-lung machine took place for the first time. And in Germany, the bus manufacturer Kässbohrer got a lot of attention: the first self-supporting coach bodywork would revolutionise bus construction.

Later, the legendary company patriarch Otto Kässbohrer put it this way: “what many people first saw as a unique experiment became a turning point in the way buses and coaches are built.”

“Both buses are landmarks of technology and comfort, safety and efficiency for their times.”

There have been many spectacular turning points such as this over the course of Setra history. The latest is the recent presentation of the next-generation Setra ComfortClass and TopClass coaches. On top of their typical Setra quality, these point towards the future of autonomous driving with their innovative assistance systems such as Active Drive Assist 2 or the extended functions of Predictive Powertrain Control (PPC). And this makes the meeting of these two coaches, both milestones of technology and comfort, safety and efficiency, all the more appealing.
