The new BlueEfficiency power engine generation


We’re ready for Euro VI! The new BlueEfficiency power engine generation already meets the emissions standard’s  requirements which become mandatory in 2014 : a key step towards an environmentally friendly and cost-efficient future.

With the introduction of the new BlueEfficiency power engine generation, pollutant particulate emissions are reduced significantly – in fact, by 66 percent compared to the Euro V standard. Nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions are reduced by as much as 80 percent.

The new engine generation has a lot more to offer as well. With the new engine generation, our engineers anticipate a reduction in fuel consumption versus Euro V. The new engines effectively resolve the apparent conflict arising from emissions reduction in combination with reduced fuel consumption – in a “clean” way! The proven BlueTech® system was evolved to the BlueTech® 6 system. It comprises highly efficient, sustainable engines with exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), common-rail injection (CR), as well as an emissions after-treatment with a diesel particulate filter (DPF) and SCR technology (Selective Catalytic Reduction).

In order to minimise fuel consumption, the entire exhaust after-treatment is designed with twin pipes, and all components are brought together in a casing. Through the cooled exhaust gas recirculation, less nitrogen oxide is released during combustion in the engine. This in turn benefits AdBlue consumption which is reduced by up to 40 percent compared to Euro V. Through an optimised dosage unit, the AdBlue is injected into the exhaust flow without air. In the SCR catalyser, the nitrogen oxide is transformed almost entirely into water and nitrogen.

Additionally, the new engine is equipped with the unique X-PULSE common-rail injection system with pressure amplification. The key benefit is that fuel is injected extremely precisely and can be freely modulated. A cylinder-selective control and high injection pressure of up to 2,100 bar are the requisites for low fuel consumption, low exhaust emission and smooth engine running.

The new engine generation will be incorporated into all Setra-brand vehicles well in time for the regulatory launch of the new exhaust emissions standard.
