Varan Turizm acquires 250th Setra coach

  • Significant Turkish customer purchases 15 twin-axle S 416 GT-HD coaches
  • ComfortClass 400 vehicles have proven record for long-distance applications
  • Istanbul company has been a partner of the Ulm-based Daimler brand since 1981

Neu-Ulm/Istanbul. Turkish company Varan Turizm has reinforced its long-standing and loyal relationship with the Ulm-based bus brand Setra through the acquisition of its 250th touring coach since 1984. The milestone vehicle, a twin-axle Setra S 416 GT-HD, is part of an order for a total of 15 such vehicles which are scheduled for delivery over the course of the coming weeks. Five of the ComfortClass 400 coaches were handed over to company owner Enis Pekuysal at the Setra Customer Centre in Neu-Ulm by Lothar Holder, Director of Sales for Setra buses and coaches at EvoBus GmbH. During the handover ceremony, the Chairman of the Board of the significant Istanbul-based customer praised the benefits afforded by the new touring coaches: "Thanks to these vehicles, we are able to combine economy with the highest levels of comfort for our passengers across our extensive route network."

Given that touring coaches are one of the main modes of transport in the gateway to the Orient, the S 416 GT-HD coaches will also be put to use on popular long-distance routes for which there is high demand in Turkey. The 4-star vehicles have seating for 48 in the variant with on-board toilet, while models without toilet can accommodate 50 passengers.

10,000th 400-series Setra coach also presented to Varan Turizm

Varan Turizm already added 14 of these twin-axle coaches to its fleet some three years ago. These vehicles were the first Setra ComfortClass 400 models to be delivered to this Eurasian country, and also included the 10,000th coach from the Setra 400 model series.

The company acquired its first Setra touring coach in 1981 in the guise of a second-hand S 215 HD. Three years later, the founder of the company Nevzat Pekuysal, the deceased father of current owner Enis Pekuysal, decided to switch the entire fleet over to the brand from Ulm. Since that time the company has also acted as the general distributor for Setra in Turkey.
