Next stop: test and vaccinate

Setra S 415 LE business as a mobile testing and vaccination unit.

To effectively combat the COVID 19 pandemic, Setra has converted an S 415 LE business into a test and vaccination vehicle. Thanks to its modular structure, this low-entry bus is suitable for numerous types of medical use beyond the pandemic, too.

Daimler Buses becomes engaged in the pandemic situation. A converted LE business interurban bus from the Setra MultiClass series makes mobile vaccination or testing possible directly on site. As many as 400 vaccinations or tests can be carried out every day aboard the low-entry vehicle. The conversion principle comes from EvoBus in Neu-Ulm. The Setra experts were supported by an experienced test and vaccination centre operator, the Huber Group from the Swabian town of Mühlhausen.

Its innovative interior concept makes it possible for the entire process – from registration to counselling to treatment – to be carried out aboard the vehicle. Thanks to networked components, the process is fully digital and thus secure and efficiently documented. The vehicle is particularly suitable for local testing and vaccination campaigns. For example, for testing and vaccination in companies or where people would otherwise have to travel long distances to the nearest testing or vaccination facility.

Access to the 12-metre-long 415 LE business interurban bus is always via the rear door. Directly to the left is the registration counter – here there is a special door control installed that enables the door to be operated not only from the driver's seat, but from the registration counter, too. On the right, we continue into the low-floor area where inoculation or testing takes place.

Like every Setra Low Entry bus, the test and vaccination bus is also accessible barrier-free via ramp.

At the rear entrance of the bus, the person to be tested or vaccinated can register and receive advice.

The four test or vaccination booths are separated from each other by means of two "smart" consoles integrated in the centre. These multifunction partitions, developed by the experts at Setra, include everything necessary for carrying out a professional test or vaccination, right down to separate disposal bins. In addition to two touchscreen monitors, their equipment includes a scanner as well as pull-out magazines with interchangeable carriers for the test sticks or vaccination syringes.

All four test or vaccination booths can be closed off from view with curtains to the centre aisle and to the outside.

The consoles with touch screens also serve as dividers between two test or vaccination booths.

On the touch screen monitor of the consoles, medical staff can check the patients' data – for a safe and efficient process.

Syringes or test sticks are stored in exchangeable carriers in the pull-out magazines of the consoles.

In the raised rear area of the Setra interurban bus, right next to the registration desk, there is a work area for the medical consultation. Further back, there are seats for confidential patient discussions. A workstation that can be separated by a sliding door is used for preparing and commissioning the medical materials. The intelligent spatial layout is completed, for example, by a refrigerator for storing the various vaccines, a storage area and a work surface that can be used for other laboratory equipment.

A special ceiling lighting illuminates the bus in a uniform manner. Almost a given in buses today, but essential here for the uninterrupted, fully digital testing and inoculation process: the on-board WLAN and a 230 V power supply via plug and USB sockets.

The seating area for confidential patient discussions has a protective screen to protect against droplet infections.

The staff members have a spacious workplace at their disposal for registration and counselling.

High-performance particle filters with an antiviral functional layer, which filter up to 99 percent of the aerosols out of the air, ensure the reduction of hazardous aerosols. The air conditioning operates with a fresh air proportion of almost 100 percent, depending on the outside temperature. This way a continuous, fast air exchange can be guaranteed. The high air exchange rate in combination with the high filter efficiency of the antiviral high-performance particle filters effectively minimises the risk of infection in all operating conditions. Of course, this also applies to the environmentally-compatible stationary operation of the air conditioning system without the engine running.

Patient check-out and exit are at the front by the driver's seat. In addition, disinfectant dispensers are installed in all relevant places throughout the vehicle and each workplace is shielded by a protective screen to protect against droplet infections. As a rest area for the observation of patients after vaccination, the use of additional coaches is recommended as needed.

Especially practical: when testing or vaccination is taking place, the driver's workplace serves as check-out station.

In the entry area there is a sensor-controlled disinfectant dispenser.

With the test and vaccination bus, Setra combines the professionalism of a medical facility with the mobility of a bus. In addition, the innovative vehicle concept offers flexible application possibilities that go far beyond testing and vaccination. This makes the S 415 LE business an attractive option for medical service providers to further develop their business models and position themselves for the future.
