For this purpose, we have developed a tender-optimised, low-entry vehicle for urban, regional and intercity transport and consistently tailored it to economic efficiency. The further developed and anticipatory cruise control system PPC integrates a driving style adapted to the topography into the automatic gearshift system and, in combination with the precisely tuned gearshift strategy, enables noticeable fuel savings. With the new, optimised generation, the system is now even more powerful. PPC drives on country roads, takes junctions and roundabouts into account and is networked with the adaptive cruise control. It can be used from a speed of 15 km/h.
The OM 936 from Mercedes-Benz is powerful and meets the highest requirements in terms of environmental friendliness with Euro VI Stage E. The use of modern, high-strength materials and intelligent technology makes the engines lighter, stronger and significantly more economical. At the same time, the performance characteristics of the engines enable downsizing, i.e. reducing the displacement with the same output, which can reduce both energy consumption and emissions. This means that Euro VI Stage E is achieved.
The OM 470 with 10.7 l displacement impresses all round. The six-cylinder in-line engine is the optimal engine when a compact design with low weight, high performance with good pulling power as well as maximum efficiency with low fuel consumption and long maintenance intervals are required. From 1,100 1/min, a torque of 2,100 Nm is available. Despite its compactness, the top-of-the-range variant achieves 335 kW of performance.
The vehicle with 48 V hybrid system impresses with greater profitability and sustainability through lower fuel consumption and reduction of exhaust gas emissions. The diesel engine is supported by the driving force of a highly efficient hybrid module. The module’s 14 kW electric motor generates energy when coasting and braking, thus supporting the diesel engine when moving off and idling. The system has autonomous energy management and thus unchanged driving characteristics and familiar operation for the driver.
The new Driver Score assistance system provides the driver with important support. Practical messages on the display enable the driver to continuously optimise his driving style. The system evaluates in four categories - acceleration, braking, uniformity and coasting. Information on the vehicle status, such as low fill levels of fuel, AdBlue or engine oil, is also relevant.
The correct tyre pressure contributes to driving safety and significantly reduced fuel consumption. Even a tyre inflation pressure set too low by 0.5 bar can increase fuel consumption by up to 5%. The wheel electronics are positioned on the inside of the rim on the valve. The sensors record the data relevant to the tire pressure and forward it to the display instrument.

The new MultiClass 500 raises the bar for safety in the low-entry segment. The robust frame structure acts like a protective cocoon. Advanced assistance systems such as Safeguard Assist 2 and Preventive Brake Assist 2 aid the driver and help to prevent accidents in a targeted way. LED headlamps provide the best visibility. And the electronic parking brake combines easy handling with high levels of safety.
Sideguard Assist 2 is a safety assistance system that supports the driver on both sides in critical turning situations with possibly restricted visibility. The system is intended to help the driver to detect moving obstacles within the system limits and warn the driver in order to avoid critical situations or reduce the consequences of accidents when turning off or when changing lanes.
The modern MirrorCam system enables a clear and comprehensive view of the road traffic. Equipped with high-resolution cameras, driving safety and the risk of accidents are minimised. The extended field of vision enables the driver to detect pedestrians, cyclists and other road users in the vicinity. This eliminates the blind spot when turning right.
360° camera system: best possible all-around visibility for maximum safety. Four cameras record the surroundings and generate indirect all-around visibility. This means that pedestrians or obstacles can also be detected in areas that are otherwise not visible.
Frontguard Assist is an advanced system that has been specially developed to inform the driver about people in the immediate vicinity of the front of the vehicle and to warn of an imminent accident. Whether moving off or driving slowly (up to 15 km/h), the intelligent assistant can detect potential collisions with unprotected road users.
Attention Assist (AtAs) 2 is a safety assistance system that can help prevent microsleep. It thus contributes to improved driving safety, particularly on long journeys and when driving at night. The system warns the driver visually and acoustically if it detects typical signs of drowsiness or inattentiveness and prompts the driver to take a break. The warning is issued independently of the legally prescribed driving and rest periods or the functions of the digital tachograph.
The innovative Traffic Sign Assist offers maximum safety and comfort on the road. Thanks to GPS and camera support, the vehicle speed is continuously compared with the valid traffic rules.

Low-floor at the front, high-floor at the rear – the revolutionary exterior design of the new MultiClass 500 makes no secret of its low-entry origins. On the contrary, in fact: nothing is concealed here, this vehicle proudly shows it all! The different seating levels are reminiscent of the stalls and circle in a theatre. An ample profile, painted in the vehicle's colour, emphasises the offset between the two vehicle sections. Harmoniously rounded corners soften the traditional shape of a scheduled-service bus. Designers even succeeded in making the roof appear to hover over the bodywork. The new front-end design of LE models is also a real eye-catcher: beautifully staged LED headlights harmonise perfectly with a light conductor*, which cleverly combines indicators, daytime driving lights and clearance lamps along a chrome strip. The centrally positioned Kässbohrer badge and the glossy Setra logo guarantee clear proof of origin.

The economical Mercedes-Benz engines OM 936 and OM 470 are available for the Setra MultiClass 500. Both major assemblies meet the current emission requirements and are designed for low consumption and high efficiency.
Legal note on active safety assistance systems: Emergency braking systems and other safety assistance systems can support the driver and, under optimal conditions and within the system limits, mitigate the severity of accidents or prevent accidents in critical driving situations. Irrespective of this, however, the driver is obliged to adapt his driving style and, in particular, his speed to the traffic and weather conditions and to remain attentive at all times. This applies in particular to special situations such as icing-up or wet roadways, rain, crosswinds, poor visibility, snowfall, fog, etc. Consequently, as the driver of the vehicle, the driver is responsible for the entire driving process at all times and must not rely solely on the safety assistance systems.
Assistance systems can only support drivers. Drivers are always fully responsible for the safe operation of the vehicle.
